Youtube announces rotalty free music for videos

YouTube today announced the launch of the YouTube Audio Library. YouTube Audio Library as of today has more than 150 instrumental tracks and I hope this number increases. The tracks in the library are royalty-free and can be used for free for any creative purpose, not just YouTube videos. The tracks are downloadable as 320 Kbps MP3 files.

Once you are logged in to youtube, goto video manager. Select "Creation Tools" in the left navigation bar and you can find "Audio Library" as part of cration tools. You can explore the music here in different ways, play, download or mark as favourite.

Check out the terms and conditions mentioned at the bottom of the audio library. Essentially it says these tracks can be used any where in videos(not just in youtube), very reasonable. The tracks can not be used seperately(without incorporating in a video) or illegally or for illegal content.

YouTube Audio Library can be accessed at youtube.com/audiolibrary.

If you are a composer and would like to add your music to youtube audio library of free royalty free music, there is link at the bottom right of the library. Click the link to submit your music.

This is a very welcome and much needed addition to youtube. Many video creators search for royalty free music for use in videos and many even end up with copyright notices though they do not intentionally violate copyrights. I have faced the issue twice though I used royalty free music from a third party and I removed my video for this reason. Now with youtube providing royalty free music, I believe such issues will come down drastically and it's a big relief for video creators.

At this point, I'm not sure(and it is not specifically mentioned anywhere) whether videos incorporating these royalty free tracks can be monetized or not. If yes, it will be great. I'll update the post once I have an answer for this. I monetize most of my videos, so it cant get better than this if these tracks can be used in monetized videos.

Thanks

Update : For now, it seems like the videos with these tracks incorporated can be monetized, though there is no evidence to say that. Though youtube doesn't say anything in particular to monetization, it is fair to assume from the blog post and terms and conditions mentioned in the audio library that there are no restrictions to monetize these videos.

Note that in case of 'Audio Swap' feature, youtube clearly states that the videos can not be monetized. There are no such restrictions mentioned for 'Audio Library'.
