I just learnt a new thing in life.
27 Jun is "International Sunglasses Day", wow.
When I checked my mails today, there were some promotional spam as usual and what caught me was "International Sunglasses Day". Initially ignored, but later realized that some top sites are running this on their home pages.
So, I thought I'll find out more about this "International Sunglasses Day". After a quick help from ever friendly Google and eager to help Bing, the oldest article I could find was posted in 2013. So I guess it is around that time this day started.
Now, why an International Sunglasses Day? All I can think of is that it must have started as a marketing tactic of some sunglass retailer. Any clues of the history or use?
If it is about caring for eyes, shouldn't this be called "International Eyesight Day" wherein they spread the awareness and importance of eye care instead of selling sunglasses?
From the past few years, I've been discovering a lot of such days. I wonder if there is any day in a year that is not some International Day. If there is any day left, please let me know. I want to make it "International Nodhing Day", ;).
Update: Just came to know, Second Thursday of October is "World Sight Day". This I understand is supported by World Health Organization(WHO). This day and its initiative makes more sense to me. WHO in coordination with others promotes this day to increase awareness about vision impairment ,blindness and prevention. Now that's a great initiative.
