Google retires Adsense for Domains

Google will soon stop Adsense for Domains which is part of the Adsense family. Adsense for domains is a product used by owners of undeveloped domains. Once the owners add their domains to their adsense account and do the necessary dns changes, google starts serving ads on these undeveloped domains. On visiting one of these domains, visitors see a couple of links/ads and if they click on any of these links the owner gets a few cents. This is called domain parking and Adsense for Domains is googles product for domain parking. The money made on each domain is usually very low, but this ads up to a few dollars everymonth for those who have  lots of undeveloped domains.

I have a few domains parked using Adsense for Domains and I received a mail today from Adsense team stating that the Adsense for Domains will be retired in the coming weeks. As per the mail,  Adsense members will not be able to add new domains to their account March 21 2012. From April 18 2012, the hosted domains will become inactive and earning is no more possible. Finally from June 27 2012, the domains can not be seen/available in the accounts.

Now for those who are using this googles domain parking, they have to move out to other parking service providers like NameDrive or Sedo. I already have a few domains each at NameDrive and Sedo and I always prefer NameDrive. Google has provided migration guide to move out to other providers here.

While moving out is an option, many parking providers I think again depend on Google  adsense ads and the major revenue is from these ads which they share with the domain owner. How this move of Google effects other parking providers remains to be seen.

All other Adsense products remain uneffected and will continue as usual.
