PC can not see/detect the memory card?

You have a memory card in your phone or other devices. The phone can see and use the memory card but it doesn't show up when you try to access it using your pcs internal card reader or a usb card reader.

There were two scenarios I faced such a problem.

1. I was trying to access a high capacity card(SDHC) in a normal reader(SD). Obviously the older reader can is not designed to handle the newer SDHC cards. Use a newer card reader.

2. This is something that we may not suspect or realize immediately. In phones and some other devices, there is an option to
secure the memory card with a password. Since the password is set in the phone, it knows the password and is able to use the card. But when the same card is accessed on a PC, it just doesn't show up. It will neither ask for password, nor show up. Only way is to put in back in the phone, remove the password and then use it in the PC. If you do not have the phone any more, try removing the password using a similar device. I had this with a memory card from a non working Nokia 5800 Xpress Music and I could unlock and access my data using a Nokia E71.

If you face any such situations, try the above and it may work for you.

Thanks.
